ABOUT THE PAIR

Meet Tilda

I grew up on a vineyard in Darling, where my love for wine and all things artisanal began. I was always encouraged to be curious, and I’ve always been inspired by the passion and complexity behind food and wine.

Years later, while living in the UK, my love for cheese really took off. The Fine Cheese Co. in Bath became one of my weekly stops, a haven of beautiful cheeses and cheesemongers who always had time for my endless questions.

Back home in Cape Town, a simple cheese board made me realise how lucky we are in South Africa to have such good wine and such good cheese. It sparked the idea to start PAIRED with my best friend, who is just as passionate as I am.

Current obsession: Chenin Blanc and goat’s cheese. Not the most traditional match, but a delicious work in progress.

Meet Sadie

At the tender age of 14 I was permitted to try a sip of wine at a tasting. Ever the precocious individual, what initially started as a mild curiosity soon grew into a deep passion. From that moment onward, wine and the history and culture around it has fascinated me.

When, during university, I was offered the chance to write a wine column in a monthly newspaper, I jumped. Armed with very little except a read through wikipedia and a few recollections from tastings at wine farms, I wrote my first column. And then kept writing. That was almost seven years ago now.

As much as I adore the slightly romantic aspect of print media, I began to get frustrated that I couldn’t reference my old work all in one place. There was nowhere that my readers could refer back to for suggestions or recommendations in previous columns.

Thus, along with my best friend Tilda, PAIRED was born. Part blog, part events host, part passion project. An amalgamation of some of the best things in life - wine, cheese and people to share them with.

P.S. currently having a love affair with dessert wine and the stinkiest cheese imaginable.
